Some leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the South-West have called for the immediate removal of Rauf Aregbesola as the party’s Interim National Secretary, accusing him of constitutional breaches capable of undermining the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
The leaders made the demand in a petition dated July 28, 2026, and addressed to the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark.
They said the decision followed an emergency meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where they accused Aregbesola of actions that had created unnecessary crises within the party.
The petition, signed by ADC officials from across the South-West, was copied to members of the National Working Committee (NWC), National Executive Committee (NEC), the party’s 2027 presidential candidate, vice-presidential candidate, and National Legal Adviser.
Signatories included Ogun State ADC Secretary, Olusoji Adebiyi; Osun State Acting Chairman, Abideen Okanlawon; Osun State Youth Leader, Adesola Akitunde; Oyo State factional ADC Chairman, Yinka Olona; Oyo State ADC member, Adebimpe Adelowo; and Ekiti State ADC Chairman, Ilesanmi Olaiya.
The leaders alleged that Aregbesola established a parallel political structure known as “Omoluabi Progressive” across South-West states and began presenting members of the group as recognised ADC executives from ward to state levels.
They argued that the alleged move violated provisions of the ADC constitution, citing Article 22, Section 1, which outlines offences including constitutional breaches, actions capable of damaging the party’s reputation, disobedience to lawful directives, creation of parallel organs, and unauthorised meetings.
The petitioners further accused the former Osun State governor of interfering in the party’s candidate selection process.
They alleged that on the final day for uploading National Assembly candidates, Aregbesola worked with some officials within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to replace candidates who emerged from INEC-monitored primaries with members of the Omoluabi Progressive group.
According to them, the individuals allegedly substituted into the process did not purchase nomination forms or participate in the party’s recognised primaries.
The ADC leaders also blamed Aregbesola for political disputes in Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, and Ondo states, alleging that he performed duties reserved for the National Organising Secretary by creating parallel primary election committees and submitting them to INEC.
They urged the party’s national leadership to take immediate action, warning that failure to address the matter could affect the ADC’s preparations and credibility ahead of the 2027 elections.
