A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to present the achievements of his administration to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying voters should judge the government based on performance rather than political arguments.
Momodu, publisher of Ovation Magazine, made the call on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, where he said the outcome of the 2027 election would largely depend on the record of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
According to him, President Tinubu’s re-election bid would be easier if the administration could demonstrate clear achievements and improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
“The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally.
”Nobody wants to pick him out because they just don’t like him. It is about performance. Present your scorecards,” Momodu said.
He urged supporters of the APC to focus more on explaining the administration’s achievements rather than engaging in attacks against critics.
“So the people running around spreading hellfire, calm down and spread that energy on showing the performance of APC,” he added.
The ADC chieftain also criticised the APC for repeatedly blaming previous administrations for the country’s challenges, describing the situation as unusual for a ruling party.
Momodu said the party had continued to criticise its predecessors despite being in power and questioned what the Tinubu administration had done differently since taking office.
“What we see is APC abusing itself and its predecessors, saying they inherited a useless government and economy.
”I have never seen a place where a party destroys its own predecessors like APC,” he said.
He argued that even if the administration inherited difficult conditions, Nigerians expected it to provide solutions and improve living standards.
“Now, let’s assume President Tinubu inherited a bad government. What has he done to change the direction of his predecessor and change the lives of the people?” he asked.
The Ovation Magazine publisher also commented on the disagreement between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is among the politicians expected to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Obasanjo had previously described his decision to choose Atiku as his running mate as his greatest political mistake.
Reacting to the statement, Momodu claimed that the former President was opposed to Atiku’s presidential ambition.
Momodu, who is an ally of Atiku, said the former Vice President remained a major political figure with significant experience and national reach.
The comments come ahead of the 2027 general election, where several political figures are expected to compete for the presidency, including candidates from opposition platforms.
