Makinde, Fayemi, Oyinlola meet Obasanjo over 2027 elections

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State,
former Ekiti State governor Kayode Fayemi, and former Osun State governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola have visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The trio met with Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where they discussed what Makinde described as “important national issues” and sought the former President’s counsel on matters affecting the country.

Makinde disclosed the meeting in a post on his social media platforms, sharing photographs of the visit alongside Obasanjo, Fayemi and Oyinlola.

“Earlier today, we visited Baba, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR in Abeokuta. Our discussions centred on important national issues in view of the upcoming general election.

”We appreciate Baba for his wise counsel at this crucial time in our nation’s history,” Makinde wrote.

The meeting comes amid growing political realignments and consultations ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with major political actors engaging influential figures across the country.

Obasanjo, who served as Nigeria’s President from 1999 to 2007, remains one of the country’s most influential political figures, with his views often attracting attention during major national debates and election seasons.

Over the years, the former President has hosted political leaders, business figures and stakeholders seeking his perspectives on national issues.

Makinde, who emerged as Oyo State governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is currently serving his second and final term as governor.

The Oyo governor has since moved to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), where he is expected to fly the party’s flag in the 2027 presidential election.

The visit to Obasanjo is coming at a time when political parties and potential candidates are intensifying consultations ahead of the next general election.

Fayemi, a former governor of Ekiti State and former minister under the administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, also participated in the meeting.

Oyinlola, who served as governor of Osun State from 2003, was also part of the delegation that visited the former President.

Although details of the discussions were not disclosed, Makinde said the engagement focused on national issues and preparations ahead of the forthcoming election.
