186 players to participate in eTranzact Golf classic in Abuja

A total of 186 players have registered for the second eTranzact Golf Classic ongoing at the IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
Femi Olagbenro, the Professional Golf Development (PGD) Tour Commissioner, said 126 professional golfers will play on Wednesday and Thursday while 60 amateur players will participate on Friday.
The tournament is a 54-hole challenge and runs on the platform of the PGD Tour—which is aimed at improving golf talents in the country.
“The eTranzact classic event fulfills the objective of the tour in helping source professional golf events and keeping the abundant golf talents in the country engaged.
“This year we have staged three events on the PGD Tour, and the eTranzact is the latest. We are glad at the impact the event is making.
“Today the Nigeria circuit has become very dynamic because of the flair that PGD Tour has brought to the fore.
“A total of 186 golfers; category one and club amateur players have entered the event which will run till Friday.
“The event will have a mid-way cut after 36 holes, where the top 30 in the professional category will proceed to the classification round along with club amateurs on Friday,” Olagbenro said.
Meanwhile notable players like defending champions Francis Epe alongside Sunday Olapade who recently featured at the Cameroon Golf Open are taking part in the tournament.
Others include youngster Okoko Godwin, former Nigeria number one, Kamalu Bako, Kabiru Mohammad, Marcus Elisha, and George Inalegwu.
There are also top entries from West African countries, especially Ghana PGA players including Bary Yaw, Augustine Manasseh, and Kofi Owusu.
N20 million prize money is up for grabs at the tournament.
