Regulation of Private Veterinary Clinic Bill will improve standard – Committee Chairman

The Delta House of Assembly Committee on Health, has said that Regulation of Private Veterinary Clinics Amendment bill would help to improve the standard of Veterinary Practitioners in the state.
The Chairman of the Committee, Mr Ferguson Onwo stated this at the Public hearing organised by the joint Assembly Committee on Health and Agriculture and Natural Resources at the Assembly Complex of Friday in Asaba.
The lawmaker noted that the Executive bill sought to amend Sections 3, 7, 11 and 19 of the principal law as well as creation of four new sections in the proposed law.
Onwo highlighting the essence of the public hearing, noted that the exercise geared towards gathering inputs from relevant stakeholders in the making of the legal document.
He explained that the bill when passed, would give room for professionalism amongst veterinary practitioners and pet owners.
The committee chairman stressed the need to improve standards in the operations of private veterinarians in the state.
Onwo noted that all inputs and contribution from stakeholders at the public hearing would be scrutinized by the committee and come up with a comprehensive report that would be presented to the Assembly.
The representatives of various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) who made their inputs in the public hearing, urge the lawmakers to consider their inputs in the various sections.
They noted that such contributions would help to strengthen the veterinary practices in the state.
Representatives of the MDAs which made their contributions include, directors in the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ministry of Justice as well as the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association.
The Assembly at its sitting on Tuesday, May 14, referred the amendment bill to the joint committee for further legislative scrutiny.
