Anyafulu briefs constituents on 1 year in office

The member representing the Oshimili South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Mrs Bridget Anyafulu, has again thanked her constituents for the opportunity to represent them in the State Legislature

Anyafulu, while hosting themselves the state to a reception to mark her one year in the State Assembly, said she was overwhelmed with the massive support of the people before,  during and after the election.

The Lawmaker recalled that she had always insisted that her mandate was a collective one, as every inhabitant of Oshimili South must be involved in ensuring that the Constituency enjoyed the best of representation in the State Assembly.

She told the gathering that though one year was not enough to assess the performance of the 8th Assembly, some people-oriented bills were passed by the House and assented to by the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, just as several motions were adopted calling on the relevant authorities to address critical issues affecting the people.

While saying that the bills already assented to, those awaiting assent, the ones pending in the House, as well as the motions, which came under the legislative duties of the Assembly, were for the interest of all Deltans, Anyafulu pointed out that Oshimili South benefitted from the activities of the House during the period under review

The Lawmaker said some of her constituents were successfully screened and confirmed by the 8th Assembly for appointment to various positions, while the developmental needs of the constituency, which were identified during her consultations with the communities and needs assessment exercises, were captured by the Appropriation Bills passed by the House.

Anyafulu listed the critical areas of need that woman receive attention in due course to include road infrastructure, healthcare, education, electricity and water supply, street lighting, among others, assuring that no part of the constituency would be left out.

On oversight, she told her constituents that she closely monitored ongoing road projects in the LGA to ensure quality delivery, stating that the pressure she mounted on contractors forced the ones with the intention of abandoning their jobs back to site.

The ebullient Legislator, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Housing, Women Affairs, Humanitarian Support Services and Girl Child Entrepreneurship, said during the year under review, she provided support to Persons Living with Disabilities, vulnerable and economically weak constituents, as well as assisted in settlement of hospital bills, payment of school fees, WAEC/NECO enrolment fees for indigent students.
