Police arrest school leaver over alleged possession of firearm in Edo

The Police Command in Edo says it has arrested a 23-year-old secondary school leaver, George Rukevwe for allegedly in possession of firearms.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Funsho Adegboye disclosed this while addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Benin.
Adegboye said George, an ex-student of a school in Delta was arrested at a location in Benin.
He said the suspect was arrested with one automatic foreign-made double barrel gun as well as one locally-made single-barrel gun.
The commissioner decried a spike in criminality in the state in recent times.
“He accepted that the two guns were given to him by the person who hosted him.
“Our operatives have been on the trail of the suspect and the long arm of law will soon catch up with him.
“He has yet to give a satisfactory explanation as to what he does in military camouflage.
“But, we know that this is the kind of person that will disguise and you think he is a military personnel, and he uses it to commit some unimaginable crimes under whatever guise,” he said.
The commissioner assured the public that the fleeing suspect would soon be arrested and prosecuted with his brother.
In an interview with newsmen, Rukevwe, who was dressed in military camouflage, claimed the guns belonged to his master, Ralph, now at large.
He could not, however, explain how he acquired the military uniform.
