Amaechi claims Nigerians eager to vote Tinubu out in 2027

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed that many Nigerians are increasingly dissatisfied with President Bola Tinubu and are looking forward to voting him out in the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Friday, where he argued that worsening economic conditions and rising hardship across the country have significantly reduced public confidence in the current administration.

According to him, everyday Nigerians are struggling with basic survival due to rising costs of living.

He said fuel prices, transportation costs, and general inflation have made life increasingly difficult, adding that the situation reflects deep economic distress nationwide.

He further stated that, in his view, Nigerians were no longer satisfied with the government’s performance and are already politically conscious ahead of the next election cycle.

Amaechi also revisited past political tensions, alleging that he was previously forced out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, due to political disagreements and control of party structures in Rivers State.

He claimed that this experience influenced his political realignment over the years.

On the upcoming 2027 elections, the former minister said opposition forces are positioning themselves to challenge the ruling party.

He noted that if a strong opposition candidate emerged, the ruling party could face serious electoral defeat, insisting that voter sentiment is currently against the government.

He also criticised attempts to weaken opposition institutions, including claims of interference in electoral and judicial independence.

Amaechi argued that credible elections require neutrality from key state institutions.

The former governor maintained that Nigeria’s economic and security challenges should be the central focus of governance, questioning how any administration could seek re-election under current conditions of hardship and insecurity.

Amaechi also reaffirmed his confidence in his political experience, stating that he understands Nigeria’s problems and believes he has solutions to offer.

He added that he would support any consensus opposition arrangement that emerges ahead of the 2027 elections.

In response to growing political criticism, President Tinubu has repeatedly maintained that his administration remains focused on governance and reforms.

He has also dismissed opposition attacks, insisting that his government will continue implementing its economic and development agenda despite political pressure.

The comments by Amaechi add to the early political tensions already building ahead of the 2027 general elections, as opposition figures and the ruling party begin positioning themselves for what is expected to be a highly competitive race.
