NNPC denies refinery scrap sale claims

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has dismissed reports suggesting it is selling refinery scrap materials, equipment, or components to individuals and private firms, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, said no such sales process had been initiated or approved by the organisation.

“The Company wishes to categorically state that this information is untrue.

”NNPC Limited has not issued any request for bids, tenders, expressions of interest, or approvals for the sale of scrap materials, refinery components, or any items from the warehouses or inventories of any of its refineries,” the statement read.

NNPC also warned members of the public against dealing with individuals posing as its agents or representatives who claim to be facilitating the sale of so-called refinery scrap or equipment.

“These individuals are not authorised by NNPC Limited and are attempting to mislead members of the public,” the company said.

The clarification followed the circulation of reports alleging that refinery assets were being disposed of through unofficial channels, raising concerns among stakeholders in the oil and gas sector.

NNPC urged the public, corporate organisations, and industry players to disregard such claims and exercise caution when approached with similar offers.

“For the avoidance of doubt, NNPC Limited is not conducting, nor has it authorised, any sale of scrap metals, equipment, or refinery components from any of its facilities,” the statement added.

The company further explained that any legitimate disposal of assets would follow due process and be communicated transparently through its official platforms in line with regulatory requirements.

It also encouraged citizens to report suspicious approaches or fraudulent claims to relevant law enforcement agencies.

Reaffirming its position, NNPC said it remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of Nigeria’s energy resources.
