Binani dumps ADC for NDC in fresh political move

Senator Aishatu Binani has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking another major shift in her political journey.

Her move to the NDC comes about nine months after she left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the ADC.

Binani, who was the APC governorship candidate in Adamawa State during the 2023 elections, formally joined the NDC at a ceremony held in Abuja on Friday.

At the event, she was issued her party membership card and welcomed by NDC leaders, including the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, alongside other senior figures.

‘Decision Based on Party Ideology’
In her remarks, Binani said her decision to join the NDC followed a careful review of the party’s constitution and guiding principles.

She described the party as one committed to structured and policy-driven governance.

“Some may point out that just nine months ago, I was at another party. Let me say clearly that I will never condemn where I came from.

“Politics is dynamic and often local in nature, and decisions are made based on prevailing realities, ” she said.

For Senator Seriake Dickson, Binani’s defection reflects growing confidence in the NDC’s political direction and ideology.

He said the party represents a new approach to governance anchored on service, inclusion, and national development.

Dickson also used the occasion to encourage women and young Nigerians to participate actively in the party’s activities.

“We also used the occasion to call on Nigerian women across the country to join the NDC, a party that recognises and values the vital role of women and youths in nation-building.

“I urged them to rise and embrace the NDC as a platform for service, leadership, and positive change in Nigeria, ” he said.

He added that Binani has been entrusted with a leadership role in Adamawa State to help strengthen unity and promote political inclusion.

Binani’s latest defection comes less than a year after she left the APC for the ADC.

She gained national attention during the 2023 Adamawa governorship election after she was controversially declared winner by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu-Yunusa Ari, during collation.

However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) later nullified the declaration and suspended the official involved.

The election was ultimately won by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Binani’s latest move adds a new twist to her evolving political career as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to shift ahead of future elections.
