ADC unveils 2026 primary election timetable, fees

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced an updated timetable for its 2026 primary elections, alongside revised nomination fees, following consultations with party leaders, aspirants, and stakeholders nationwide.

In the new structure, the party pegged nomination forms at N90 million for presidential aspirants, N30 million for governorship, N10 million for Senate, N5 million for the House of Representatives, and N2 million for State Houses of Assembly tickets.

According to the revised schedule released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the sale of nomination forms would run from May 1 to May 4.

Purchase and submission of completed forms are scheduled between May 6 and May 13, with the final deadline for submission set for May 13, 2026.

Screening of aspirants would take place on May 14 and May 15, while the results of the exercise will be made public on May 17.

The party also fixed May 18 and May 19 for the hearing of appeals arising from the screening process. A final list of cleared candidates is expected to be released on May 20, 2026.

Primary elections would begin with contests for State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate seats on May 21.

Governorship primaries are scheduled for May 22, while the presidential primary will hold on May 23.

The timetable also includes a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on May 25, followed by a Special National Convention on May 26.

The ADC maintained its concessionary pricing policy, offering a 50 per cent reduction in nomination fees for youths aged 18 to 35, and a 25 per cent discount for women and persons living with disabilities.

Abdullahi said the adjustments were the outcome of wide consultations aimed at improving internal democracy and inclusiveness within the party.

“These adjustments reflect the outcome of broad-based consultations aimed at strengthening internal democracy, improving access, and ensuring that the ADC continues to provide a credible and inclusive platform for political participation,” he stated.

He urged aspirants and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the revised guidelines, adding that the party remains committed to presenting credible candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
