Enugu Assembly lawmaker quits ADC, set to align with NDC

Political realignment in the Enugu State House of Assembly intensified on Monday as Mr Harrison Ogara, the representative of Igboeze South Constituency, formally announced his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Ogara’s resignation letter, addressed to the party ward leadership in Unadu, Igboeze South, took immediate effect.
In the correspondence, he expressed appreciation to party executives for the opportunity to serve under the platform while confirming his withdrawal from the party structure.
The lawmaker stated: ”I hereby write to officially inform you that henceforth I have resigned my membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“This action is sequel to the plethora of litigations and disharmony in the party which have made it almost impossible for any political progress to take place.
“I therefore, wish to use this medium to thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve your party.
“Thanks for your understanding and cooperation in this regard.”
Ogara’s decision, according to political observers, adds to the growing wave of party realignments in the state, coming shortly after the high-profile defection of Mr Peter Obi to the National Democratic Party (NDC).
Sources familiar with developments within the legislature say the lawmaker may be preparing to follow Obi into the emerging political platform, the NDC, although no official confirmation has been made.
Ogara currently stands as the only opposition member in the 25-member Enugu State House of Assembly.
He was originally elected in 2023 under the Labour Party (LP) alongside 15 other legislators but notably declined to join colleagues who later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Party insiders attribute his latest move to prolonged internal disputes within the ADC, which he described as a major obstacle to political cohesion and progress.
With his resignation now public, attention has shifted to his next political destination, as speculation mounts over a possible alignment with the NDC in the unfolding political reshuffle in Enugu State.
