Ikokwu joins NDC, cites political realignment

Former Arise News anchor and House of Representatives aspirant, Dr. Chiogo Ikokwu, has announced her defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the move as part of a broader political realignment ahead of party primaries.
In a statement titled “A Strategic Realignment for Purposeful Service,” Ikokwu said recent developments in the political space, particularly in Anambra State, influenced her decision.
She noted that shifting alliances and uncertainty within the political environment made it necessary to align with a more stable platform.
“I had to make a quick and tough decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after careful reflection.
”With the level of uncertainty, shifting alliances, and ongoing realignments across the political space, it is important to find a platform that is stable, forward-looking, and aligned with the vision for meaningful engagement,” she said.
She added that elements of the coalition she associates with had already moved into the NDC, making her decision both strategic and timely.
“As part of these broader movements, key elements of the coalition I identify with, found a home within the NDC, making this transition both timely and necessary.”
Ikokwu explained that her decision was driven by a desire to better position herself for effective representation of her constituency.
“Ultimately, my focus remains clear: to reach the destination where I can effectively serve the people.
”This move is about positioning, ensuring that I am on a platform that offers the right atmosphere, strength, and opportunity needed to translate commitment into tangible service and impact for my constituency.”
She reaffirmed her commitment to accountable leadership and people-focused governance, while appealing for support from like-minded stakeholders.
Ikokwu concluded her statement with her personal slogan: “Politics for Public Good. Take Back Your Government.”
