Fubara denies defection rumours, inspects health projects

The Government of the Rivers State has dismissed widespread speculations suggesting that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming that he remains a member of the ruling party.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara made the clarification on Wednesday during an inspection tour of major healthcare projects in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
The Governor’s visit covered the newly constructed General Hospital and the fully remodelled Neuropsychiatric Hospital located in Rumuigbo, where he assessed the level of completion of the facilities.
Addressing concerns over alleged political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, Fubara dismissed the reports as false and urged the public to disregard rumours circulating in sections of the media.
He insisted that he has not left the APC, stressing that his political commitment to the party remains unchanged.
“I am a member of the All Progressives Congress and nothing has changed. People should stop misrepresenting me based on social media rumours,” the governor said.
Fubara further noted that his focus remains on governance and delivering projects that directly impact the lives of citizens rather than political speculation.
During the inspection, the Governor was guided through various sections of the facilities by the Director of Medical Services in the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Vincent Wachukwu.
The tour included hospital wards, a conference hall, an ICT centre, student hostels, staff quarters, and other critical infrastructure.
He expressed satisfaction with the completion of both health facilities, describing them as strategic investments designed to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
According to him, the rehabilitation of the psychiatric hospital and the construction of a new general hospital were initiated after the government identified gaps in access to quality healthcare in the area.
Fubara explained that the absence of a nearby general hospital had previously forced residents to travel long distances to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, a situation his administration sought to correct.
He stated that the new facilities were conceived to serve surrounding communities, including Rumuola, Rumuolumeni, and neighbouring areas, thereby improving access to medical care.
The Governor declared both projects fully completed, saying they had reached 100 per cent execution, contrary to any contrary reports suggesting otherwise.
He described the projects as part of his administration’s commitment to people-centred governance, adding that his priority remains delivering services that directly improve the welfare of citizens.
Fubara reaffirmed that his government would continue to focus on infrastructure, healthcare, and social development aimed at improving living standards across Rivers State.
