APC primaries produce winners across Rivers

The committee in charge of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries in Rivers State has declared Hon. Dumnamene Deekor as the party’s candidate for the Gokana/Khana Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The results were announced on Saturday evening by the chairman of the primary election committee, Hon. Wahab Owokoniran, at the APC collation centre situated at the party’s secretariat along Aba Road in Port Harcourt.
According to Owokoniran, Deekor, who currently represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, secured a landslide victory after polling 17,073 votes.
His closest challenger, Israel Lebura Ngbuelo, garnered 1,220 votes.
The exercise also produced the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, as the APC candidate for the Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency.
Amaewhule, widely regarded as a political associate of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, emerged victorious to clinch the party’s ticket for the 2027 election.
In Port Harcourt Federal Constituency I, Precious Igwe coasted to victory after contesting unopposed and recording 5,885 votes.
Blessing Amadi also secured the APC ticket for Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency.
Another ally of Wike, Hart Cyril Godwin, won the Bonny/Degema Federal Constituency primary after defeating Philmoore Tony in the contest.
For the Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo Federal Constituency, Felix Uche Nwaeke emerged victorious with a total of 18,605 votes, while Isobo Solomon clinched the party’s ticket for Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru Federal Constituency.

In the Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency contest, Onyeozu Nyebuchi defeated Adiele Ogbor after polling 13,704 votes to emerge as the APC standard-bearer.
The primaries came days after the APC screening committee reportedly cleared 21 aspirants to participate in the exercise while disqualifying four aspirants believed to be loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Observers at the exercise noted the presence of the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State, Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem, who monitored proceedings at the collation centre.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, Owokoniran praised party members for maintaining peace throughout the primaries.
“We did not even experience any form of rancour, or any infighting, or any problem whatsoever.
”Contrary to the impression out there that Rivers State is violent, surprisingly, there was no violence.
”So, congratulations to the Rivers people, especially APC members,” he stated.
He further expressed confidence that the APC would record impressive performances in the 2027 general elections across various elective positions in the state.
Also reacting to the outcome of the primaries, the Rivers APC Publicity Secretary, Chibike Ikenga, appealed to aspirants who lost in the contest to remain loyal to the party and support its candidates.
“For those who didn’t make it, it does not mean they can’t make it tomorrow. Our party has mechanisms to reconcile aggrieved members and ensure unity ahead of the general elections,” Ikenga said.
