Lewandowski announces Barcelona exit

Robert Lewandowski has confirmed he will leave FC Barcelona at the end of the season, bringing an end to a successful four-year spell with the Spanish champions.
The veteran striker announced his departure on Saturday, stating that he was leaving the club with a sense of fulfilment after helping restore Barcelona to the top of Spanish football.
“After four years full of challenges and hard work, it’s time to move on,” Lewandowski wrote on Instagram.
“I leave with the feeling that the mission is complete. Four seasons, three championships.”
The 37-year-old forward joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022 at a difficult period for the Catalan giants, who were battling financial troubles and rebuilding the squad.
During his time at the club, Lewandowski scored 119 goals in 191 appearances across all competitions and played a key role in helping Barcelona win three La Liga titles, including the current season’s crown.
He also helped the club secure the Copa del Rey title in 2025 and contributed to Barcelona’s return as strong contenders in the UEFA Champions League.
“Barca is back where it belongs,” the Polish striker added.
“I will never forget the love I received from the fans from my very first days. Catalonia is my place on earth.”
Lewandowski is expected to make his final appearance at Camp Nou on Sunday when Barcelona host Real Betis.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick confirmed that the striker would start the match and paid glowing tribute to his long-time player.
“He spoke with the team, said goodbye, and that it was a great time for him here in Barcelona,” Flick said.
“I’ve worked with Robert now for years, and we won together nine trophies. All the titles I’ve won were with him.”
The German coach praised Lewandowski’s professionalism and influence on younger players, describing him as a role model within the squad.
“He’s a professional player. Every day he gave the best with his body to be at the highest level,” Flick stated.
“He’s a perfect role model for young players. This is why he’s still playing at this level.”
Flick further described the striker as “a fantastic human” and “a world-class player.”
Barcelona also paid tribute to Lewandowski on social media, thanking him for his contributions to the club.
“Thank you, Robert Lewandowski, for every goal, every fight, and every magical moment wearing these colours,” the club stated.
“He arrived as a star, he leaves as a legend.”
Widely regarded as one of the finest strikers of his generation, Lewandowski finished as La Liga’s top scorer during his debut season under former Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez.
This season, he shared attacking duties with Ferran Torres and still managed 18 goals in 44 appearances.
Although Lewandowski did not reveal his next destination, reports have linked him with possible moves to clubs in Saudi Arabia and the United States.
