NDC extends deadline for expression of interest forms

 

 

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced an extension of the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for aspirants seeking to contest various elective positions under the platform of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to a statement signed by the National Secretary of the party, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu Esq., the deadline, which was earlier scheduled to close at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, has now been extended to 12:00 midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

The extension applied to aspirants contesting for seats in the State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and Governorship positions across the country.

The party also disclosed that screening of aspirants who have purchased and completed their Expression of Interest Forms would commence on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and end at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

In addition, the collection and return of Nomination Forms for all screened and cleared aspirants would begin on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, and close on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

The NDC stressed that all aspirants must comply strictly with the approved timelines, warning that no further extension would be granted after the new closing date.

However, the party clarified that the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for the Office of the President has officially closed.

The statement further directed all aspirants to appear for screening and pre-qualification interviews at designated venues nationwide with relevant documents, including educational certificates, birth certificate or declaration of age, four recent passport photographs, voter’s identification card, NDC membership card, and copies of their curriculum vitae.

According to the guidelines released by the party, all submitted documents must be provided in six copies each to the Screening Committee.

The party explained that screening of aspirants would be based on several criteria, including the wishes of the electorate, local peculiarities, capacity and competence of aspirants, as well as character and integrity.

The Screening Committee was also instructed to observe the party’s affirmative action policy, which provides consideration for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities.

NDC encouraged aspirants to embrace consensus-building in the interest of unity and party cohesion, emphasizing that only aspirants who successfully scale through screening and clearance processes would be eligible to purchase Nomination Forms.

The party urged all aspirants and stakeholders to comply fully with the guidelines and timelines as preparations continue for the 2027 electoral process.
