Obi cleared as NDC unveils 17-member aspirants screening panel

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has on Tuesday commenced with the screening of its aspirants as the party’s sole presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi was cleared as its candidate late yesterday.
The main opposition party had earlier constituted a 17-member committee to screen aspirants seeking the party’s presidential, governorship, senatorial and House of Representatives tickets ahead of the coming elections.
According to the party, the committee is scheduled for inauguration at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2024.
A statement issued by the NDC National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, disclosed that former Ebonyi State Governor and ex-Senator, Sen. Sam Egwu, will chair the panel.
The statement also revealed that Barrister Reuben Egwuaba, who currently serves as the party’s National Legal Adviser, has been appointed Secretary of the committee.
The NDC explained that the screening panel comprises experienced party leaders, professionals and selected members of the party’s National Working Committee.
Comrade Babatunde Ali was named Deputy Chairman of the committee, while other members include Alhaji Buba Galadima, Hon. Mohammed Sani Takori, Mr. Daniel Onifade and Mr. Ikeddy Isiguzo.
Also appointed into the committee are Mr. Wole Adedayo, Dr. Osusu Osusu, Chief Asukewe Ikoawaji and Prof. Udenta Udenta.
The list equally features Barrister Frederick Owotorufa, Hannatu Tanko, Mr. Dogo Shammar, Sir Henry Obaze, Mr. Clement Agiagie and Barrister Fatima Musa Abba.
The party leadership expressed confidence that the committee would ensure a transparent and credible screening process for all aspirants contesting under the platform of the NDC.
