Duke enters PRP presidential contest

Former Cross River Governor, Donald Duke, has officially joined the presidential race of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the party’s primaries scheduled for May 25.
The PRP made this known in a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq.
According to the party, Duke is among three presidential aspirants cleared to participate in the forthcoming primary election. The others are Nnaoke Ufere from Abia and Yakubu Kingsley from Edo State.
The statement noted that the three aspirants had unanimously agreed to submit their ambitions to the decision of party members during the nationwide primary exercise.
It added that their decision reflected a strong commitment to democratic principles, internal unity and party discipline ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The PRP takes pride in the calibre of its aspirants, whose dedication to democratic principles and commitment to teamwork have further strengthened our party,” the statement said.
The party further assured members and supporters of its readiness to conduct a transparent, credible and peaceful primary election across the country.
According to the statement, more than 260 aspirants are expected to contest for different elective positions on the platform of the party nationwide.
The PRP explained that primary elections would be conducted in areas where consensus arrangements among aspirants could not be achieved.
The party also reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, transparency and democratic values throughout the nomination process as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
