Tinubu promises improved security, national unit

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians of improved security and a stronger economy, while calling for national unity as Muslims across the country celebrate Eid al-Adha.
In his 2026 Eid-el-Kabir message to Muslims in Nigeria and worldwide, the President said his administration remained committed to building a nation where citizens can live in peace, worship freely, and pursue their aspirations without fear.
Tinubu described ongoing reforms under his government as difficult but necessary, saying they are aimed at strengthening the economy and securing long-term prosperity for future generations.
According to him, the country is gradually emerging from economic challenges, with reforms already contributing to greater stability and improved investor confidence.
“Just as sacrifice brings reward, I am happy that the sacrifices and efforts we have made over the past three years have yielded a more stable economy,” the President said, adding that Nigeria is becoming a preferred destination for investment and job creation.
He assured Nigerians that efforts to improve security would continue, noting that while security forces have recorded successes including the elimination of a wanted ISIS-linked leader threats from terrorists and bandits persist in some regions.
Tinubu emphasised that no community affected by insecurity has been abandoned, promising sustained military and intelligence operations to defeat criminal groups across the country.
The President also urged Nigerians to reflect on the spiritual lessons of Eid-el-Kabir, particularly the values of sacrifice, compassion, and unity as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.
He encouraged citizens to show kindness to the less privileged, strengthen communal bonds, and embrace tolerance across religious and ethnic lines.
“My administration remains committed to building a Nigeria where all citizens can live in peace, worship freely, and pursue their dreams without fear,” he said.
Tinubu further called on Nigerians to pray for peace, wisdom for leaders, and stability in communities across the country, while warning criminal elements to abandon violence or face the full weight of the law.
In a related development, the Federal Government declared Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
The statement confirmed that the holidays are to allow Muslims and other Nigerians to fully observe the festivities and reflect on the spiritual significance of the season.
As the nation marks the celebration, the President’s message adds to wider calls from leaders across the country for unity, peace, and renewed commitment to national development.
