APC winners demand clarity over certificate delays

Winners of the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections have expressed concern over delays in the issuance of Certificates of Return, calling for greater transparency and prompt administrative action ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The aspirants, drawn from different states and elective positions, said the delay was creating uncertainty within party ranks despite the conclusion of primaries and the announcement of winners by relevant party committees.

Some of the affected candidates, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said differing interpretations of internal party guidelines were contributing to confusion over the formal ratification of primary election outcomes.

One of the winners said the electoral process had been completed at the committee level, but official documentation was yet to be released.

“We took part in the primaries and winners emerged through the processes conducted by the party committees,” the aspirant said.

“However, many of us are still awaiting our Certificates of Return, and we believe clarity is needed to avoid unnecessary tension.”

Another aspirant noted that the situation had triggered discussions within party circles on the need for clearer communication and stronger adherence to post-primary procedures.

According to him, improved transparency would help strengthen internal democracy and reduce avoidable disputes among stakeholders.

Some aspirants also referenced earlier instances where Certificates of Return were issued promptly, including those presented after the presidential primary that produced President Bola Tinubu, urging consistency in the party’s handling of all candidates.

They called on the APC leadership to ensure due process is followed and that all successful aspirants are formally recognised in line with established party guidelines.

Party officials are yet to issue a comprehensive public explanation for the delay, even as concerns continue to grow within various state chapters.

The development comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with internal cohesion and candidate management emerging as key areas of focus.
