NDC conducts Delta North primaries, affirms support for Obi’s 2027 bid

 

Thousands of National Democratic Congress members and supporters gathered in Asaba on Friday for the party’s Delta North primary elections ahead of 2027.

The exercise whii took place at Anglican Girls Grammar School, attracted delegates and stakeholders from the nine local government areas of Delta North Senatorial District.

Party members participated in the selection of candidates for the presidency, Senate, House of Representatives and Delta State House of Assembly.

The venue came alive with political activities as supporters sang, chanted slogans and expressed confidence in the party’s electoral prospects.

A major highlight of the exercise, was the affirmation of Peter Obi as the party’s consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Delegates and party faithful endorsed Obi through a voice vote, signaling overwhelming support for his emergence as the party’s standard-bearer.

Speaking to journalists, Delta North Senatorial aspirant and former Delta Assembly Speaker, Mr Victor Ochei, described the turnout as encouraging.

Ochei attributed the massive participation to effective mobilisation efforts and the growing desire among Nigerians for a new political direction.

He said citizens were increasingly demanding leadership capable of addressing economic challenges and improving living conditions.

According to him, the NDC is positioning itself as a credible alternative ahead of the next general elections.

The former Speaker expressed confidence that the party would compete strongly against established political parties in 2027.

On election integrity, Ochei stressed the importance of ensuring that every vote cast is counted and protected.

He noted that voters have become more aware of their rights and are determined to monitor electoral processes closely.

Ochei maintained that citizens would follow the process from voting to result collation to ensure transparency.

Meanwhile, officials commenced the collation of results from the 98 wards across the Delta North Senatorial District.

The results are expected to be transmitted to the party’s national headquarters for ratification and official announcement.

The exercise ended peacefully, with supporters expressing optimism about the party’s future and electoral ambitions.
