Tobi Amusan breaks meeting record to win Diamond League Hurdles in Rabat

Tobi Amusan of Nigeria produced a commanding performance at the Rabat Diamond League in Morocco on Sunday, winning the women’s 100 metres hurdles in a time of 12.28 seconds and setting a new meeting record in the process.
The world record holder got off to a sharp start and maintained her rhythm throughout the race, pulling away from the field to secure her first Diamond League victory of the 2026 season.
Her winning time also matched her season’s best, underlining her return to top form after a series of strong but winless podium finishes earlier in the year.
Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas finished second in 12.40 seconds, while Dutch athlete Nadine Visser placed third in 12.47 seconds.
Amusan’s performance broke the previous meeting record of 12.45 seconds, which she had set at the same venue in an earlier edition of the competition.
The victory added to what has already been a notable season for the Nigerian hurdler.
Earlier in 2026, she claimed gold in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the African Championships in Accra, a result that gave Nigeria its first gold medal of the competition.
Prior to her win in Rabat, she had placed third in Shanghai with 12.41 seconds and improved to second place in Xiamen, where she also ran 12.28 seconds.
Her latest triumph is expected to boost confidence as she continues preparations for major international competitions later in the season, including her defence of the Commonwealth Games title.
Amusan is scheduled to compete next at the Wanda Diamond League meet in Rome on June 4.
