Trans-Warri Road Project Reaches 49.5% Completion

The Delta Government has expressed satisfaction with the progress of major road infrastructure projects across the state, as the rehabilitation of the Trans-Warri/Ode-Itsekiri Bridges access road reaches 49.5 per cent completion and the construction of Okowa Crescent in Ughelli nears completion at 99 per cent.

Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Mr Reuben Izeze, disclosed this during an inspection tour of the projects, describing them as significant milestones in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s infrastructure renewal programme aimed at improving connectivity and enhancing economic development across Delta State.

Speaking during the inspection of the Trans-Warri/Ode-Itsekiri Bridges access road project, Izeze explained that the rehabilitation of the first five kilometres of the corridor became necessary due to years of heavy traffic that had left the road in a deteriorated condition despite the successful completion of major sections of the bridge project.

According to him, Governor Oborevwori approved the rehabilitation to ensure that residents, commuters and visitors enjoy a seamless and safe driving experience from the Refinery Road axis through Ubeji to Ode-Itsekiri.

“The Governor felt it would not be appropriate to commission a world-class bridge project through a dilapidated access road. That informed the decision to rehabilitate the entire five-kilometre stretch so that the people of Warri, Ubeji, Ode-Itsekiri and neighbouring communities can enjoy smooth and safe transportation,” Izeze said.

The commissioner commended Niger Cat Construction Company, which was awarded the contract in May 2026, for maintaining a satisfactory pace of work and complying with approved engineering specifications.

He expressed confidence that the project would be completed before the peak of the rainy season, paving the way for its commissioning.

At Okowa Crescent, located off the Ughelli/Patani Expressway in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Izeze disclosed that the road project, awarded to Obakpor J.U. Construction Limited in September 2025, had attained 99 per cent completion.

He noted that only minor finishing works and road markings remained before the road would be ready for commissioning.
“We observed just a few finishing touches that need to be completed.

Once those are done and the road markings are installed, the project will be ready for commissioning,” he stated.

The commissioner further revealed that all additional works approved by Governor Oborevwori, including drainage improvements, had been completed according to specification, ensuring the durability and sustainability of the project.

Also speaking during the inspection of the Trans-Warri access road, the Special Project Director of the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges Project, Chief Otimeyin Adams, applauded the governor for approving the rehabilitation works, noting that the intervention had transformed a previously damaged roadway into a smooth and motorable corridor.

He said the upgraded road would enable residents and visitors to fully appreciate the landmark bridge project while improving transportation and accessibility within the area.

In his remarks, the Majority Leader of the Warri South Legislative Arm and Trust Assistant Secretary of Ifiekporo Community, Hon. Tuoyo Ebigbeyi, described the Trans-Warri/Ode-Itsekiri Road as a strategic economic asset capable of unlocking development opportunities, boosting agricultural activities and attracting investments.

Ebigbeyi commended Governor Oborevwori for ensuring the completion of the project, stressing that the road would open up new frontiers for economic growth and significantly improve the living conditions of residents in the riverine communities.

The projects form part of the state government’s broader commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and driving sustainable development across Delta State.
