Remi Tinubu Defends Economic Reforms, Backs Renewed Hope Agenda

Wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, has defended the economic reforms of the administration of Bola Tinubu, saying they are designed to create long-term benefits for future generations.

She spoke on Wednesday after a review meeting of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) activities at the State House, Abuja.

She said the government is focused on rebuilding key national structures for sustainable development.

Mrs Tinubu said the administration has undertaken tough but important reforms, including fuel subsidy removal.

She said the goal is to reposition Nigeria for long-term economic stability and growth.

According to her, “What we are doing in this administration is to make sure that even generations unborn would benefit.”

The First Lady admitted that the reforms initially caused hardship for citizens.
However, she said Nigerians have shown resilience and confidence in the government’s direction.

“Take subsidy removal, for example. It was tough, very, very tough… but the challenges were surmounted,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu urged young Nigerians to actively seek opportunities in government ministries and agencies.

She said many programmes and job openings are now accessible through digital platforms.

“We have to inform the youth… What can I key into?” she said.

She noted that several federal agencies are now led by young Nigerians contributing to national development.

She encouraged youths not to assume that opportunities do not exist.

Instead, she advised them to engage directly with relevant institutions.

The First Lady highlighted achievements of the Renewed Hope Initiative over the past three years.

She said the programme has supported Nigerians through agriculture, education, healthcare, and empowerment schemes.

Interventions included scholarships, ICT training, grants for small businesses, and support for vulnerable groups.

Mrs Tinubu also cited major health-related contributions under the initiative.

She said funds were committed to tackling tuberculosis, breast cancer, and malnutrition.

“I gave N2 billion for tuberculosis, N1 billion for breast cancer and N500 million for food and nutrition programmes,” she said.

She urged Nigerians to embrace agriculture and innovation for self-reliance and food security.

Mrs Tinubu encouraged citizens not to lose hope despite current economic challenges.

“We have to renew our hope… God bless Nigeria and God bless our children,” she said.
