Ondo Adopts Women Economic Empowerment Policy Plan

Ondo State government has moved to domesticate the National Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy and Action Plan to expand women’s access to economic opportunities across key sectors of the state.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, ‘Seun Osamaye, announced the development in Akure while hosting the national domestication team, noting that the initiative aligned with the administration’s drive to strengthen women’s inclusion in economic growth.

The policy framework is designed to support women in agriculture, entrepreneurship, traditional labour markets, emerging industries, education, and skills development, with a focus on reducing economic inequality.

She said the plan, developed in collaboration with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, is being adopted nationwide to ensure coordinated implementation across all states.

The domestication exercise in Ondo is expected to involve stakeholder engagement, validation processes, and policy alignment ahead of full implementation.

She said the initiative would boost financial inclusion, create more job opportunities for women, and enhance their participation in both formal and informal sectors of the economy.
