Kano Pillars unveil Ogunmodede as technical adviser

Nigeria Premier Football League side Kano Pillars have appointed Daniel Ogunmodede as their new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026/2027 football season, handing the experienced tactician a two-year contract.

The former Remo Stars coach, widely known as Ijaball, joins the Kano club following a remarkable spell with the Ikenne-based side, where he transformed the team into one of the country’s leading clubs and guided them to their first-ever NPFL title in the 2024/2025 season.

Ogunmodede began his coaching journey at Remo Stars as an assistant before taking over as head coach in 2020.

Under his leadership, the club secured promotion to the top flight, consistently finished among the league’s top teams and earned qualification for continental competitions before eventually lifting the league trophy.

His appointment represents a major statement of intent by Kano Pillars as the former league champions prepare for a fresh campaign aimed at returning to the summit of Nigerian football.

Beyond club football, Ogunmodede also serves as an assistant coach of the Super Eagles, working alongside head coach Eric Chelle, bringing valuable national team experience to his new role.

He replaces Muhammad Babaganaru, whose contract expired at the end of the 2025/2026 season.

Kano Pillars thanked the outgoing coach for his dedication and contributions during his time with the club, wishing him success in his future career.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has appointed Ahmad Garo as the new Chairman of Kano Pillars Football Club.

Garo, an experienced football administrator, previously served the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in several capacities, including FIFA Connect Manager, U-23 Team Administrator and Coordinator of the Home-Based Super Eagles.

He also holds FIFA and CAF certifications in sports and club management.

The new chairman has pledged to strengthen the club through transparent administration, youth development, sound financial management and improved competitiveness as Kano Pillars seek to reclaim their place among Nigeria’s football elite.
