World Cup winners to receive custom championship rings

The winners of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive specially designed championship rings alongside the traditional trophy and gold medals, marking a new addition to football’s biggest tournament.

FIFA announced that 30 customised rings will be presented to the victorious team after Sunday’s final between Argentina and Spain at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The rings, inspired by the tradition of major American sports leagues, will feature the World Cup trophy on one side, while the other side will carry personalised designs reflecting the identity of the winning nation.

Captains and head coaches will receive temporary versions immediately after the final, with the customised rings to be delivered to players at a later date.

FIFA will also produce a limited edition of 2,026 individually numbered rings, with 1,996 made available for fans to purchase.

The final will also feature a grand closing ceremony before kick-off and a halftime performance by international music stars.

On the pitch, Argentina will seek back-to-back World Cup triumphs after defeating England in the semi-final, while Spain will aim to claim their second title after their 2010 victory.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi could make history by becoming the first player to feature in three World Cup finals.

The forward is also looking to extend his record as the tournament’s all-time leading scorer and remains level with France’s Kylian Mbappé on eight goals in the Golden Boot race.
