The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the public display of the personal particulars and credentials of candidates nominated by political parties for the 2027 general elections.
The exercise, which included details of presidential and National Assembly candidates, is part of the commission’s preparations for the polls and is being conducted in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
INEC said the display was carried out at its State Head Office in Abuja and simultaneously across the six Area Council offices of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The exercise provides members of the public with an opportunity to scrutinise the information, affidavits and other documents submitted by candidates seeking elective positions.
The commission said the move is part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability and public confidence in the electoral process.
Speaking during the exercise on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), FCT, the Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye, said the publication of candidates’ particulars is a statutory requirement under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026.
She explained that the law mandates INEC to display candidates’ personal information, affidavits and relevant documents in the constituencies where they intend to contest.
“The Commission is on course with its preparations for the 2027 General Elections and will continue to carry out every stage of the electoral process in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, 2026, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines, ” she said.
Oladunjoye said the display covers presidential candidates and National Assembly candidates contesting in the Federal Capital Territory, adding that the simultaneous arrangement across INEC offices was designed to make the information easily accessible to citizens.
She encouraged political parties, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to take advantage of the exercise by examining the details provided and raising observations where necessary.
The commission reiterated its commitment to following the approved timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, assuring Nigerians that all stages of the electoral process would be conducted in compliance with existing laws and guidelines.
The publication included the particulars of major political figures and other candidates submitted by their respective parties for the upcoming elections.
