Education Trust Fund inaugurates water project for schools in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Education Trust Fund has inaugurated a 9,000 litre water project for schools and National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, lodge in Tungbo community in Sagbama Local Government of the state.
The ceremony took place on Friday at the premises of Community Primary School I and Government Comprehensive Secondary School (GCSS), Tungbo that also habours the NYSC lodge.
The fund said the project, was done in partnership with Rotary Club of Yenagoa, District 9141, was to address the water needs of the students, teachers corps members as well as check the spread of water borne diseases.
Inaugurating the projects, the Bayelsa Commissioner for Education, Dr Gentle Emelah commended the efforts of the fund and partners for the school intervention initiative, saying it would improve the quality of education in the state.
Chairman of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Dr Charles Daniel, said the project would help to prevent the outbreak of cholera and other water borne diseases in the schools.
The Executive Secretary of the fund, Dr Alice Atuwo and the Acting Chairman of the fund, Prof. Francis Sikoki said the scheme was part of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) initiative of the agency.
President of the Rotary Club, Dr Ayakeme Whiskey and the District Governor, Rotarian Chinedu Ikeguani, said the club was committed to partnerships that would improve the quality of lives in the society.
The Principal of GCSS Tungbo, Mr Eghoromrere Benin, the Ebenanaowei of Tungbo Clan, King Coleman Agbalalah and the Amananaowei of Tungbo Ibe, Retired Lieutenant Commander Amos Poubinafa lauded the project.
