N6.8bn substation in A’Ibom for completion in December- Project Manager

Mr Suleiman Adeyemo, the Project Manager, Legend Engineering Limited, says the N6.8 billion power transmission substation in Ibiono Ibom, Akwa Ibom will be completed in December.
Adeyemo stated this while taking delivery of key components of the substation on Tuesday in Ididep, Ibiono Ibom.
He said that the 2X30/40MVA 132/33KVA substation project had achieved significant milestones since the company took over its implementation in Feb. 2023.
The project manager said that major components of the project such as transformers, major switch gears and surge arrestors had been procured and stored in containers.
”The perimeter fence construction is 90 per cent completed. The process of jacking the transformer into the plinths is in progress.
”We are very sure of completing the project before the end of the year, provided sufficient funding is made available.
”The project is typically a 24-month endeavour, subject to funding availability.
”It was initially budgeted at N6.8 billion.
However, only N500 million was released in 2023, we have used it to take the project to its current state,” he said.
Adeyemo said that the transmission power substation spans approximately 9 hectares of land and includes staff quarters and a control room.
”We currently have 209 drums of transformer oil and conservator tanks,” he said.
Adeyemo also stated that the company had completed the profile drawing, obtained approval and was currently working on the transmission lines.
He expressed optimism that once the substation was completed and a reliable power supply established, many companies would be attracted to the area.
The project manager said that in spite of topographic challenges, they had equally completed the transformer plinths.
