The publisher and chairman of The Guardian newspaper, Mrs. Maiden Ibru, has declared THISDAY as the number one newspaper in Nigeria
Mrs. Ibru delivered the powerful endorsement of THISDAY’s position in Nigerian media at the glamorous THISDAY 30th Anniversary Awards Night held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
While receiving the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, Ibru described THISDAY in a rare acknowledgment from a respected figure in the same industry.
Her words: “This award really came as a surprise to me. But knowing who the Duke is, he will decide to do what he wants to do
“I really appreciate this. I can’t put anything to it—it really came as a shock, and I appreciate it. Thanks very much. Continue to do what you’re doing with THISDAY, it is definitely the number one paper in the country. No question about it. It is a fact,” she said
The evening, which celebrated three decades of THISDAY’s groundbreaking contributions to Nigerian journalism, began with a statement from Obaigbena emphasising the importance of honouring excellence.
“It is a privilege to honour some of the best of Nigeria because we believe if we honour our best, our children will be better,” he said.
