Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate closure of the secretariat of the dissolved Ad-hoc Committee on the Sale of Federal Government Houses in the FCT.
The directive marked the formal end of the secretariat’s operations following the completion of the committee’s assignment and the conclusion of its transitional responsibilities.
The FCT Administration disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
Under a new arrangement approved by the minister, responsibilities previously handled by the dissolved committee will now be transferred to a dedicated division within the Department of Land Administration.
The new division would take charge of all matters concerning the sale of Federal Government Houses in the nation’s capital, providing a permanent administrative structure for the process.
The administration explained that although the ad-hoc committee had completed its mandate, its secretariat remained open for a period to address outstanding matters arising from its activities.
With the secretariat now shut, members of the public seeking information or assistance relating to the sale of Federal Government Houses have been directed to deal directly with the Department of Land Administration.
The FCT Administration also issued a strong warning to residents and prospective buyers to be cautious of individuals attempting to exploit the transition for fraudulent purposes.
It specifically warned against persons presenting themselves as officials, staff or members of the former committee or its secretariat.
“Members of the public are also urged to be mindful of the antics and activities of fraudsters who parade themselves as staff, officers and members of the defunct Ad-Hoc Committee/Secretariat on SFGH,” the statement said.
The administration stressed that the committee and its secretariat “no longer exist”, making any person claiming to represent either body unauthorised.
The new structure is therefore expected to provide a clear channel for future transactions involving Federal Government Houses in the FCT while shutting the door on those who may seek to profit from confusion surrounding the committee’s dissolution.
