Students applaud Bayelsa Govt. for tackling school water crisis

Students of Government Secondary School in Asamabiri, Bayelsa State, have expressed gratitude to the Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF) for providing a 9,000-litre capacity water project.
The project delivered in partnership with the Sustainable Partnership Initiative for Development (SPID), aimed to provide potable water in public schools across the state.
The students commended the EDTF for its “uncommon commitment” to student welfare and quality education, noting that the initiative has put an end to their long-standing water challenges.
They noted that gesture was i expected to improve both their living conditions and academic performance.
Speaking shortly after the commissioning, several students, including Oputa Loveth, Aganaba Treasure, and Tombri Olaere, commended the EDTF for an “uncommon commitment” to student welfare and quality education.
Mr. Edwin Moses, Principal of Government Secondary School, Asamabiri, pledged that the facility would be properly used and maintained.
He added that the water project would likely encourage more teachers and NYSC members posted to the school to reside in the community.
Moses  assured that their welfare was being prioritised.
The State  Commissioner for Education, represented by the Director of Exams and Records, Mr. Monday Eke, said the state government was pleased with the EDTF’s impact and encouraged the Fund to sustain the momentum of educational development across Bayelsa.
The EDTF has provided water projects in eleven schools in Bayelsa State, improving sanitation and hygiene in these institutions .
This initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to provide a conducive teaching and learning environment in schools.
The EDTF’s partnership with SPID has brought relief to students and teachers in rural schools in  addressing the issue of access to safe drinking water.
