June 12 declared public holiday for democracy day celebration

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 26 years of uninterrupted civil rule.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on Sunday on behalf of the government, congratulating Nigerians on this milestone.
“June 12 represents our historic journey to building a nation where truth and justice reign and peace is sustained and our future assured,” the statement quoted the minister as saying.
“The last 26 years tells the story of our resilience, strength and courage and a hope Renewed than ever.”
The minister highlighted the country’s resilience, strength, and courage, noting that democracy was sustained with open doors for further improvement.
 President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope government reaffirms its commitment to universal democratic values, prioritising the freely-expressed will of the people in determining Nigeria’s political, economic, social, and cultural systems.
President Tinubu will address a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives on June 12, marking Democracy Day.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “26 years of democracy: Renewing our commitment to national development.
