Nigeria condoles India over Air India flight 171 crash

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed its deepest condolences to the Government and people of India over the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 in Ahmedabad.
This is contained in a statement by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, on Thursday in Abuja.
“Nigeria stands in solidarity with India during this period of immense grief and unfortunate loss,” the statement said.
While initial reports indicate that no Nigerian citizen was aboard the flight, the Nigeria High Commission in New Delhi remained in close contact with Indian authorities to verify this information and provide consular assistance where necessary.
“In this moment of shared sorrow, Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to global aviation safety and supports the call for thorough investigation into the crash with a view to preventing such tragedies in the future, ” the statement added.
The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed profound sorrow and solidarity with India during this period of grief.
The Nigeria High Commission in New Delhi is working closely with Indian authorities to verify if any Nigerian citizens were on board the flight and provide consular assistance if necessary.
Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to global aviation safety and supports a thorough investigation into the crash to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The crash occurred on Thursday, killing at least 265 people on board and on the ground, with one reported survivor.
Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was a London-bound passenger plane that crashed in a residential area shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport.
265 bodies were recovered, including passengers and people on the ground.
One passenger, identified as Vishwashkumar Ramesh, survived the crash.
The Indian government has launched a formal investigation into the cause of the crash, with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) leading the probe.
