Benue killings genocide, not clashes – Tor Tiv

The Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse, has expressed concern over the misrepresentation of the security crisis in Benue State, stating that it is not about herder-farmer clashes or communal conflicts, but rather a calculated and well-planned genocidal invasion and land-grabbing campaign by terrorists or bandits.
The traditional ruler described the attacks as calculated, well-planned, full-scale genocidal invasion and land-grabbing campaign by terrorists.
The Tor Tiv lamented the spread of misinformation, which has led to suggestions of tolerance, negotiation, and coexistence.
Accordibg to him, ”We do have great concerns about the misinformation and misrepresentation of the security crisis in Benue State.
”It is not herder-farmer clashes, it’s not reprisal attacks, it’s not communal clashes; it is this misinformation that has led to suggestions such as, ” he said.
He emphasised that wrong diagnosis would always lead to wrong treatments, stressing the need for accurate understanding of the crisis.

He also describes the situation as a full-scale genocidal invasion and land-grabbing campaign, which has been ongoing for decades and worsening yearly.
His words: ”What we are dealing with in Benue State is a calculated, well-planned, full-scale genocidàl invasion and land-grabbing campaign by either terroristts or bandíts which has been on for decades and is worsening every year.”
He said that the situation required addressing the root cause of the crisis, rather than just its symptoms.
