Benue Killings: Activist faults Tinubu’s visit, says it was insensitive

Human rights activist Dele Farotimi has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue State, saying it would have been better if he hadn’t visited at all.
The lawyer said this on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday.
Farotimi expressed disappointment with the president’s response to the ongoing attacks and killings in the state, describing it as “unfeeling” towards the plight of the people.
The human rights activist questioned the president’s priorities, suggesting that the focus was more on political theatre than addressing the killings.
According to him, I must say very quickly that it would have been better if the president didn’t go.
Farotimi praised the Tor Tiv V, James Ayatse, for speaking out about the attacks, describing them as a “calculated, well-planned, full-scale genocidal invasion and land grabbing campaign by herder terrorists and bandits”.
”The only person who said anything of note during the president’s visit to Makurdi, the Benue State capital on Wednesday, was the Tor Tiv V, James Ayatse, who described the attacks as a “calculated, well-planned, full-scale genocidal invasion and land grabbing campaign by herder terrorists and bandits”.
Farotimi also criticised the red-carpet reception given to the president, saying it was insensitive to the recent killings.
He emphasised the primary role of the state was to protect the lives and property of citizens, calling for action to address the crisis.
The state has been under attack by suspected herdsmen, with over 160 residents confirmed killed in recent weeks.
The killings have sparked national outrage and global attention.
