INEC accused of colluding with APC to frustrate coalition’s registration

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Kalgo, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of colluding with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to block the registration of new political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kalgo made the allegation on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief programme on Friday.
He claimed that INEC’s refusal to register more than 70 applications for new parties reflected a systemic bias and fear of the emerging coalition challenging the status quo.
According to Kalgo, INEC is working hand-in-hand with the APC government to frustrate the efforts of the coalition seeking to register a new party.
He questioned INEC’s reasons for rejecting the applications, asking if all 70 applicants had filed incorrect or incomplete submissions.
Kalgo also cited electoral guidelines, noting that if INEC responded to a new party application within 90 days, the party should be deemed registered automatically.
He expressed concerns about the APC’s fear of a united opposition, stating that Nigerians are tired and want a new government.
The PDP chieftain criticised the current administration’s record, saying the APC government has failed Nigeria woefully with nothing to show after two years in power.
He called on INEC to register the new party, to enable it to offer Nigerians a real alternative government in 2027.
