The Rivers State Government has rejected reports of a renewed disagreement between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly over the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The government described the reports as misleading, insisting that relations between the executive and legislative arms remain cordial as both sides work toward the development of Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Governor Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, said the governor was “not at loggerheads” with the lawmakers, contrary to reports circulating in some national newspapers and online platforms.
Nzeshi explained that the 2026 budget proposal, which reportedly triggered the fresh speculation, is still passing through the normal legislative process after it was formally presented to the Assembly by the governor.
He expressed confidence that the lawmakers would conclude their consideration of the proposal and pass the Appropriation Bill in due course.
The clarification comes amid renewed public attention on the relationship between the Rivers executive and legislature, particularly against the backdrop of the state’s recent political tensions.
However, the government urged the public not to be swayed by what it described as negative narratives capable of creating unnecessary tension between the two arms of government.
According to Nzeshi, the administration remains committed to preserving peace and harmony with the Assembly, stressing that stability is essential for the state to sustain its development programmes.
“Rivers State needs peace and stability to sustain its development,” he said, while appealing to those promoting contrary narratives to desist.
The government’s position is that the budget process should be allowed to run its normal course, with the executive and lawmakers working together in the interest of Rivers residents rather than being drawn into another political confrontation.
For now, the Fubara administration maintained that there is no fresh feud with the Assembly and that its focus remains on governance, cooperation and continued development across the state.
