BSN boosts Bible translation efforts with N943m budget for 2026

The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has budgeted N943 million for 2026 to translate scriptures into local languages and implement impactful programs.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Manager of BSN Public Relations, Mr Benjamin Mordi, on Wednesday in Lagos.
Mordi said the budget represented a 97 per cent increase from the N479 million spent in 2024, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to making the Bible more accessible to Nigerians.
He said that N288.3 million is allocated for 10 ongoing projects, including the Nigerian Sign Language Bible, which will receive N62 million due to its complexity and importance in serving the deaf community.
He also said that N306 million is earmarked for this initiative, which combines Bible distribution with humanitarian relief, providing essential items like food, clothing, and school kits to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and underserved communities.
Mordi disclosed that in the first quarter of 2025, BSN spent more than N148 million on its mission to make the Bible available and engaging for Nigerians ¹ ²
He added that completing a Bible translation project typically costs at least N150 million and takes around eight years.
Mordi said despite economic challenges, BSN remains committed to its mission, driven by resilience, accountability, and a sense of responsibility to the Christian community.
Yet we remain undeterred by the economic climate—our mandate to share God’s Word in every language remains our top priority.
“Our resilience, accountability, and sense of responsibility to the body of Christ drive us. As government does its part, we must do ours—in line with the great commission,” he said.
The Bible Society of Nigeria is a non-profit, non-denominational organisation dedicated to making the Bible available, affordable, and understandable in preferred languages and formats.
They also offer life-transforming programs to deepen faith and discipleship.
