Tinubu deeply concerned about Rivers State – Tonye Cole

Tonye Cole, the 2023 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, has said that President Bola Tinubu is deeply concerned about the oil-rich state’s evolving political situation.
In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Cole said, “I suspect that one of the things the President is deeply concerned about is Rivers State and how it’s going to evolve.”
He added that Tinubu planned to hold a key stakeholder meeting with Rivers State leaders, although he doesn’t think the time was right yet.
Cole also declared his interest in contesting the 2027 governorship poll in Rivers State, citing poor governance as a major concern.
He emphasised the need for effective leadership to address the state’s challenges.
When asked about his relationship with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Cole revealed he hasn’t discussed his governorship ambition with the immediate past Rivers governor.
Cole also couldn’t confirm whether Wike was still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or seeking to join the APC.
He however, described himself as the APC leader in Rivers State.
Cole previously suggested that four prominent individuals – Peter Odili, Rotimi Amaechi, Nyesom Wike, and Siminalayi Fubara , must come together to resolve the state’s political crisis.
He noted that President Tinubu could facilitate the meeting to bring peace to Rivers State.
