Babachir Lawal blasts Tinubu over economic policies

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has expressed his inability to work with President Bola Tinubu, saying that he would have resigned from his position if appointed to the president’s cabinet.
Lawal said this on Monday when he featured on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
His words: “I thank God that I didn’t make the mistake of being in this government ab initio.
“If I were in this government, I probably would have been sacked a long time ago, killed or resigned, ” he said.
Lawal criticised Tinubu’s administration, accusing the government of nepotism, particularly in appointments.
He cited instances where meetings were dominated by people from Tinubu’s Yoruba ethnic group, making it difficult for non-Yorubas to participate fully.
Lawal alleged that Tinubu’s government favoured Yoruba-speaking individuals in appointments, creating an imbalance in representation.
He faulted Tinubu’s economic policies, citing the removal of fuel subsidies as a major contributor to the country’s economic hardship.
Lawal argued that the decision was made without due consultation and has had a devastating impact on Nigerians.
Lawal expressed concern over the rising inflation rate in the country, which he attributed to the government’s policies.
He claimed that despite the government’s announcement of removing fuel subsidies, they were still paying subsidies, which has led to increased fuel prices and hardship for Nigerians.
Lawal also weighed in on the 2023 presidential election, saying that Peter Obi won the election, not President Tinubu.
He alleged that the election was rigged by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lawal described his relationship with Tinubu as strained, saying that the president is “full of himself” and thinks he’s above others.
Lawal revealed that his last conversation with Tinubu was in July 2022, before Kashim Shettima was announced as Tinubu’s running mate.
