Replacing Tinubu with Jonathan not solution to Nigeria’s problems – Farotimi

Human rights activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi has said replacing President Bola Tinubu with former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2027 elections won’t solve Nigeria’s problems.
Farotimi  said this in an exclusive interview with Channels Television, arguing that Nigeria’s issues was beyond personalities and required a systemic overhaul.
He also emphasises that recycling old politicians won’t bring about meaningful change without addressing the underlying structural problems.
He further noted Nigeria’s problems were deeply rooted in its system, and changing leaders without fixing these issues won’t yield different results.
Farotimi questioned the quality of Nigeria’s political class, describing them as more focused on personal gain than nation-building.
He said that meaningful change could only come from the people, who must coalesce around ideas of reform and demand better governance.
Farotimi stressed the importance of focusing on policy and systemic reforms rather than personalities and short-term solutions.
Farotimi is more interested in the substance of Obi’s proposals rather than the promise of a one-term presidency.
He questioned what Obi plans to achieve in his term and how he intended to address Nigeria’s challenges.
Farotimi emphasised the need for leaders to be held accountable for their actions and policies, rather than just focusing on the length of their tenure.
