Trump envoys head to Egypt as Hamas agrees to free Gaza hostages

Two senior U.S. envoys, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, have arrived in Egypt to discuss the release of hostages held in Gaza, following Hamas’s agreement to a ceasefire proposal put forth by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The talks aimed to finalise details on the release of hostages and negotiate a deal to end the nearly two-year war between Israel and Hamas.
Hamas announced its approval for the release of all hostages according to the exchange formula included in Trump’s proposal.
Trump warned Hamas that he would “not tolerate delay” on the peace deal, emphasising the need for swift action.
Despite the agreement, Israeli forces continued to launch deadly strikes across Gaza, killing at least 39 people since dawn Saturday, according to the head of Gaza’s main Al-Shifa Hospital.
Many Gazans hailed Trump’s announcement, with one resident saying, “The best thing is that President Trump himself announced a ceasefire, and Netanyahu will not be able to escape this time.
”He is the only one who can force Israel to comply and stop the war. ”
The conflict has resulted in significant humanitarian concerns, with Israel’s retaliatory offensive killing at least 67,074 Palestinians, according to health ministry figures in the Hamas-run territory.
The United Nations considers these figures reliable, noting that more than half of the dead are women and children.
