2 arrested by EFCC for undeclared foreign currency

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated an investigation into two travelers caught with undeclared foreign currencies totaling $6,180 and £53,415 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
EFCC disclosed this on Saturday, in a statement signed by Head of Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
According to the anti-graft agency, the suspects were apprehended by personnel of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria during a routine check on Saturday.
The suspects, identified as Mamud Nasidi and Yahaya Nasidi, were intercepted during a routine check on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
They were scheduled to travel to Abuja after arriving from Dubai en route to Addis Ababa.
The EFCC received the suspects and exhibits from the Department of State Services (DSS), and investigations are currently underway to determine the source and legitimacy of the funds.
Three mobile phones were also found in the suspects’ possession.
The statement added that the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate in Ikoyi is handling the investigation, with Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE1 Ahmed Ghali, overseeing the case.
