Oborevwori honoured with AFRIFF Herbert Wigwe award for excellence

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, has once again earned national recognition, receiving the Herbert Wigwe Award for Excellence at the ongoing Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos.
The award, also presented to Vice President Kashim Shettima, celebrated individuals who have made remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s creative and entertainment industry.
Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori expressed appreciation to the organisers of AFRIFF for the honour, reaffirming the State’s strong commitment to nurturing the creative economy.
“On behalf of the Governor and the people of Delta State, I thank the organisers of AFRIFF for this recognition. We truly appreciate.
“Delta remains one of Nigeria’s foremost contributors to the entertainment industry, and we will continue to support the growth of film and creative enterprises across the country and Africa,” he said.
He highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to develop its creative infrastructure, describing Delta as a peaceful and business-friendly destination for film production and other entertainment ventures.
“The previous administration built a major entertainment complex with film studios, cinemas, and recreational spaces.
“This government plans to go further by establishing a full-fledged film village, a mini-Hollywood, where actors, musicians, and other professionals can live, work, and collaborate, ” he said.
Onyeme added that the state government remained committed to improving the welfare of creative talents and providing the resources necessary for them to excel.
In his remarks, Pastor Shingle Wigwe, father of the late Herbert Wigwe, lauded AFRIFF for immortalising his son through the award and praised the festival as a driving force for Africa’s creative growth.
“Seeing this event gives me immense joy.
“When I retired from the Nigerian Television Authority, film festivals were unheard of in Nigeria.
”AFRIFF has become a true marketplace of ideas and creativity—a hub for Africa. It will play a major role in boosting Nigeria’s economy and global reputation, ” he said.
The Herbert Wigwe Award for Excellence continued to highlight leaders and institutions championing innovation and development in Africa’s creative landscape.
