Asagba of Asaba steps down as chairman of Anioma State technical committee

In a significant development in the ongoing campaign for the creation of the proposed Anioma State, His Royal Majesty, Professor Epiphany Azinge, SAN, the Asagba of Asaba, has withdrawn from his role as Chairman of the Technical Committee overseeing the project.
The announcement, which takes immediate effect, was made public through a statement issued by his personal secretary, Ogbueshi Dr. Jude Mgbeze.
While reaffirming his unwavering support for the establishment of Anioma State within its historically recognized boundaries, the monarch cited recent developments that rendered it impossible for him to continue leading the committee.
According to the statement, the Asagba’s decision is rooted in two central concerns. First, ongoing disagreements over the delineation of territorial boundaries for the proposed state have created persistent friction.
Second, what he described as covert maneuvers and ill-advised proposals aimed at relocating the future state capital away from Asaba have further complicated matters.
“As the traditional ruler of Asaba, I am duty-bound to safeguard the heritage, interests, and territorial integrity of my kingdom.
“Continuing at the forefront of a process that could compromise Asaba’s status would conflict with the solemn oath I took upon ascending the throne,” he said.
The Asagba emphasised that he would not support any action that might undermine the welfare of the Asaba people, even as he continues to champion the broader vision of Anioma State.
The withdrawal marks a pivotal moment in the campaign, raising questions about the future leadership of the Technical Committee and the strategies that will be pursued to reconcile divergent interests within the Anioma region.
