The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed a significant boost in security across the nation’s capital, including enhanced surveillance at all borders with neighboring states and key entry points into the city.
The directive was highlighted on Tuesday by the FCT Police Commissioner, Miller Dantawaye, during a briefing with members of the joint military task force comprising the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies.
The task force, operating under the code name Operation Sweep, has been deployed to various parts of the FCT to curb crime and maintain public safety.
Commissioner Dantawaye emphasised that the FCT Minister has ensured adequate logistics support for the operation, describing it as critical for its success.
“The FCT Minister, His Excellency Nyesom Wike, has provided complete support, especially in terms of logistics.
Approval has been given for funds to cover fuel, vehicle servicing, and allowances for the personnel.
These resources are already accessible to the operation,” he said.
The police chief further stated that the operation is prioritizing areas known for kidnapping and banditry, with the goal of enhancing safety for all residents.
He urged the task force to foster close collaboration to effectively eliminate criminal activities within the FCT.
