Arise News journalist Ovieteme George honoured at African media awards

Ovieteme George, a reporter with Arise News, has been recognised for excellence in journalism, winning the Outstanding News Report award at the inaugural African Media Awards in Ethiopia.
George, who was one of three journalists shortlisted for the award, shared the news on social media, noting his regret at being unable to attend the ceremony.
He sustained a fractured femur while playing in a football match between the NUJ and NCDMB teams, preventing his personal attendance.
In his stead, his wife, Favour George, represented him at the event and accepted the accolade on his behalf, receiving warm applause from attendees.
The African Media Awards, launched to celebrate journalistic achievement across the continent, seek to honour reporters whose work demonstrates integrity, impactful storytelling, and public accountability.
The award adds to George’s professional achievements and highlights his contribution to broadcast journalism in Nigeria.
His recognition at a continental platform reflects both the quality of his reporting and the growing influence of Nigerian media in Africa.
